Radiant Glow: External Lifestyle Routine You Need to Follow

Hello, my Lovely People,

Welcome to Glow with Maghie — your go-to space for all things skincare and makeup. Here, we keep it simple, real, and focused on the essentials you actually need to know.

Now that we’ve explored the inner lifestyle habits that support glowing skin, it’s time to turn our attention to what you do on the outside — your external skincare routine. (If you missed Part 1, you can check it out here: [Glowing Skin Secrets: Inner Lifestyle Habits You Need to Follow].)
While internal care lays the foundation for healthy skin, external care helps protect, nourish, and reveal your natural glow. So, let’s dive into the practical steps you can start today!

🌿 External care

🧼 1. Practice Good Skin Hygiene

I can see you leaning your face on your palm while reading this — and yes, it’s a comfortable position, but try to avoid touching your face often. This habit can transfer bacteria and microbes to your skin, which can lead to breakouts and irritation.

When it comes to hygiene, here are a few essentials:

  • Clean your phone and sunglasses regularly. They come in contact with your face and can carry dirt and bacteria.
  • Change your bedspread and pillowcases weekly. This helps reduce the buildup of oil, sweat, and dead skin cells that can transfer to your skin while you sleep.
  • Use a clean face towel or disposable tissue to dry your face (not the one used for your body).
  • Keep your hair and scalp clean. Oily or dirty hair can transfer oils to your face, especially around the forehead and hairline. Long story short: clean scalp, clear skin.
  • Always remove makeup and sunscreen before bed. Sleeping with makeup or SPF on can clog pores, leading to dull skin and breakouts.
  • Disinfect makeup tools and brushes weekly — they’re often overlooked but can carry bacteria.
  • Avoid sharing personal skincare tools — like razors, tweezers, or face rollers.

💦 2. Consistent Skincare Routine

Create your own skincare routine that actually works for you and targets your specific skin concerns. Is it for hydration, anti-aging, sensitive skin, repairing the skin barrier, or controlling excess oil? Or maybe you’re completely new to skincare and feeling a bit lost? Don’t worry — I’ve covered that in detail in my post: [Beginner’s Skincare Routine – A Simple Guide for Anyone Starting Out]. Feel free to check it out!

But here’s the truth: Do you need a skincare routine? Yes.
Do you have to follow both AM and PM routines? That depends on your lifestyle and priorities — but remember, nighttime is when your skin naturally rejuvenates, so a good PM routine is highly beneficial.

And no — you don’t need to invest in all expensive skincare products to get glowing skin. Affordable, budget-friendly products can work just as effectively as high-end ones when used consistently and correctly.

So, start your routine, stick to it, and give your skin time — you’ll definitely begin to see the difference.

☀️ 3. Never Skip Sunscreen

If there’s one skincare rule you should never break — it’s this: Never skip sunscreen. Whether it’s sunny, cloudy, rainy, or you’re just staying indoors near a window, your skin is still exposed to UV rays that can cause premature aging, dark spots, and long-term damage.

Sunscreen isn’t just for beach days — it’s your daily shield. If you’re investing time and effort into skincare, don’t let the sun undo all that glow. And no, you don’t need the fanciest sunscreen out there — just make sure it’s broad-spectrum with at least SPF 30, and you’re good to go.

Apply it every morning as the final step in your routine — and if you’re out and about, reapply every 2–3 hours. It’s a small habit that makes a huge difference in the long run.

(Personal Experience -On a personal note, I’ve always preferred using mineral (physical) sunscreens over chemical or hybrid ones. I just don’t like the idea of sunscreen absorbing into my skin cells — mineral sunscreen sits on top of the skin and acts like a shield, which feels safer and more comfortable for me.

My sunscreen journey actually began over 8 years ago, and even back then, I naturally gravitated toward mineral formulas. I stuck with them through everything — including my pregnancy and nursing period — and they’ve never let me down.

That’s why I always recommend mineral sunscreens over the other variants. They’re gentle, effective, and a great choice, especially for sensitive skin or anyone looking for a safer option.)

🌿 4. Switch to Clean/Minimal Makeup

By now, you’ve probably seen terms like minimal makeup, glowy skin, clean girl makeup, and more all over your feed. And yes — they’re all about enhancing your features with fewer products and a fresh, natural look. I personally recommend not layering too many steps of makeup into your daily routine.

If you’re a working professional and want to look fresh and presentable throughout your work hours, go ahead and apply makeup — but do it mindfully.

This topic is huge and can’t be fully covered under one heading, but here are a few essentials to follow:

  • Choose products that suit your skin type — oily, dry, sensitive, or normal.
  • Check product expiry dates. Expired makeup can cause breakouts, irritation, or even infections. If it’s past its time, toss it!
  • Use a primer as a barrier between your skincare and makeup — it helps makeup sit better and protects your skin.
  • Avoid wearing makeup for more than 6–8 hours, especially if you’re indoors or not refreshing your look.
  • Always remove your makeup completely before bed — no exceptions. Let your skin breathe and repair overnight. And include double cleansing into your routine.

💫 5. Follow a “Skin First” Mindset

In a world full of beauty trends and filters, it’s easy to forget that healthy skin is the real goal. A skin-first mindset means focusing on taking care of your skin, not just covering it up. When your skin feels good, you’ll naturally glow — with or without makeup.

  • Prioritize Skin Health Over Hiding Imperfections-Instead of piling on foundation or concealer, focus on treating your skin gently and giving it what it needs — hydration, nourishment, and care. Clear, healthy skin is better than any filter.
  • Treat, Don’t Just Conceal-Have acne or dull skin? That’s okay — we all go through it. But rather than hiding it daily, look into what’s causing it and treat it from the root with the right products and habits.
  • Skincare Is Self-Care-Your skincare routine isn’t just about your face — it’s a little “me-time” moment. Even 5 minutes of caring for your skin can help you feel refreshed and confident.
  • Less Can Be More-You don’t need 10+ products to glow. A few right products that suit your skin type will do wonders. Let your skin breathe and avoid overwhelming it.
  • Confidence in Natural Skin-It’s okay to have texture, scars, or uneven tone — that’s human. Learning to embrace your skin as it builds long-term confidence, with or without makeup.
  • Consistent Habits Over Quick Fixes-There’s no magic overnight cream. But small, daily habits like cleansing, moisturizing, and wearing SPF can bring big results over time. Be patient with your skin — it’s worth it.

✨ Final Thoughts: Let Your Glow Be Real

Glowing skin isn’t just about expensive products or trendy routines — it’s about showing up for yourself every day with care, consistency, and kindness. These external lifestyle habits aren’t just skincare steps; they’re part of a healthy ritual that nourishes both your skin and your self-confidence.

Remember, everyone’s skin is unique. Take your time, find what works for you, and most importantly — enjoy the journey. Radiance doesn’t come from a single product… it comes from the love you pour into yourself daily.

See you all in another topic — until then, bye Lovely People, stay glowing!! 🌟💛
